The brain is largely made up of fat, with the most important fatty acid in the brain being the omega-3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). In addition to DHA, the omega-3 fatty acid EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) is also considered cardioprotective. This means it has a protective effect on the heart and is recommended as a preventative measure against heart disease. Furthermore, DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal vision.

What are omega-3 fatty acids?
Omega-3 fatty acids are considered good and essential unsaturated fatty acids. Essential in this case means that they are both essential for life and must be supplied through food because the body cannot produce the components itself.

Protecting cells from oxidative stress
Vitamin E helps protect cells from oxidative stress. But what exactly is oxidative stress?
Our body should maintain a balance between oxidants and antioxidants. However, if our body's own protective mechanisms are insufficient to protect the organism from free radicals, an imbalance occurs, and this is referred to as oxidative stress. Free radicals pose a potential threat to our body's cells and are linked to the development of disease. Important radical scavengers are found in fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as high-quality vegetable oils. To support the body's fight against these oxidants, the intake of vitamin E, such as that found in Vitazell®-Omega, is suitable.

Vitazell®-Omega – Sustainable and free from pollutants
To ensure that the algae used to produce omega-3 oil in Vitazell®-Omega do not come into contact with potential pollutants in seawater, the microalgae are not harvested from the sea, but are cultivated in special containers in a relatively environmentally friendly manner. Therefore, there is no negative impact on the marine ecosystem, as occurs with fishing and fish farming in aquaculture.
