The prickly pear cactus originates from Mexico, where it remains widespread. Today, it can also be found in numerous countries around the Mediterranean. The elongated, flat stems bear oval fruits, 7 to 10 centimeters long, which are green, yellow-orange, or reddish-purple.

The pleasantly sweet juice is extracted from these fruits, appearing iridescent yellow-orange to reddish-purple due to its betalain content. All Schoenenberger plant and vegetable juices come from certified organic farming.
